Description

We are celebrating summer in this issue , and hope that our dahlia cover star (one of Julianne Robertson’s dahlias), whets your appetite as she dives into her dahlia-growing obsession inside this issue.

This is an issue full of flowers as Katie Reynolds advises on the best cut flowers to grow in a Scottish garden; Dougal Philip and Lesley Watson revel in their auricula theatre; Scott Smith gives us a masterclass in propagating even more plants by cuttings; while Andy Peasgood builds a wildlife wall to encourage those all-important pollinators into the garden to stay .

Our floral fancies cannot though neglect the abundance of food which can be grown in our gardens and, with Cairi Baliman showing what she can grow on Shetland and Kelly Ireland tantalising our taste buds with tomatoes in the polytunnel, you’ll definitely be inspired to get outside and get growing. Don’t despair though if you think you have no space in which to grow food as Katrina Gelderbloem illustrates how to grow upwards, and if you think you have a garden full of weeds, Janice Clyne offers inspiring ideas for harvesting wild garden greens for a nutritional boost.

We’ve been out and about for this issue too, attending The Caley Awards, visiting Sheila M. Averbuch’s floral paradise in East Lothian, and hearing all about a rhubarb festival in Dunoon as the town aims to be the rhubarb capital of Scotland – just as well then that Joanne Evans shows us in this issue how to design the perfect seating area for the garden as we all need to find time to sit and enjoy our green spaces.

It’s another bumper issue, which we hope delivers a great big dose of summer gardening goodness for you.
